Draft, pending legal review. This describes how The Nest works today and isn't final.
Privacy
The Nest connects people who work in restaurants with restaurants that are hiring. You sign in with Blackbird, so The Nest only learns what Blackbird shares with it and what you type in.
If you apply for a role
- From Blackbird: your Blackbird ID, your name and email, and whether Blackbird knows you as someone who works in a restaurant.
- From you: an optional nickname, the email you want this application to use, an optional note, an optional resume, and your answers to any questions the restaurant asks.
- Who sees it: only staff at the restaurant location you applied to. No other restaurant sees your application.
- The restaurant sees a verified “Industry” badge if Blackbird has ever known you as industry. If it hasn't, nothing is shown in its place.
- The restaurant's notes on your application (such as “Contacted”) are theirs and aren't shown to you.
If you save a role
We keep which roles you saved and when, along with your Blackbird ID, name and email from Blackbird. Only you see your saved roles; restaurants don't.
If you get alerts from a restaurant
We keep which restaurants you asked for alerts from, and email you at the address Blackbird gave us each time one of them posts a role. Every alert has a link that stops them, and you can stop them on your Account page.
If you reported a post
Reporting posts is turned off for now. For reports sent earlier, we keep the reason picked and anything written.
If you post roles for a restaurant
We keep the post, your Back of House login's email, and a record of what was posted, edited, hired or taken down and by whom, so posts can be looked into if something goes wrong. Your restaurant's profile (logo, photos, About and links) is public on its page, and we keep who last changed it.
If you ask for access to post roles
We keep what you put in the form (your restaurant, your name and title, email, phone, neighborhood and message) so The Nest team can get in touch about posting roles. We don't email you automatically or share it with anyone else. To limit how many requests one person can send, we also keep a scrambled code made from your connection that changes every day and can't be turned back into your address. We delete it after 7 days.
Emails
Restaurants get one email per new applicant, with just the applicant's first name, last initial and the role. Restaurants also get a reminder every 30 days while a post is up. When you apply, you get one email confirming it, sent to the address you applied with. When a role you applied for closes, you get one email saying it's no longer open, unless you've deleted your data. If you asked for alerts from a restaurant, you get one email per role it posts.
How long we keep things, and deleting them
- Resumes are deleted 12 months after the role they were sent to closes.
- Applications are kept, so restaurants keep a record of who applied, until you delete them.
- You can see exactly what you sent with each application, including your resume, from “Your applications.” An application can't be edited or taken back once it's sent; to change anything, contact the restaurant directly.
- You can delete everything The Nest holds about you, anytime, with “Delete my data” in Account, including your answers and alerts. Restaurants then see “Deleted applicant” with no name or contact details, and The Nest forgets your Blackbird ID. Your Blackbird account itself isn't affected.
[To decide: contact address for questions. Pending legal review.]
